Joseph's Journey
The beast was burdened with its charge
As Mary in her silence rode,
While Joseph led the way before
To where the Babe would find abode . . .
A Manger Stall.
The journey, framed by setting sun
Where cloudless sky awaits the night,
Imposed concern in Joseph's heart . . .
The days accomplished . . . Holy Sight . . .
He pondered all . . .
For Mary was within his care
Through mortal years; how kind and pure . . .
The angel had explained, and Joseph knew . . .
And deepest love endure;
Beyond the call . . .
For time alone! . . . Mortality . . . then
To the Father of her Son
Throughout the vast Eternity . . . ! And Joseph?
Heaven's treasure he has won . . .
Possessing all!
